The Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) Company has said it lost 200 distribution transformers to unholy activities of vandals within 10 months.
JED Managing Director, Engr Hashim Ibrahim made the disclosure on Thursday in Jos, Plateau state; during the official unveiling of a new vision, mission and core values of the company, aimed at improving on customer service.
“In 2021 alone, vandals and thieves have torched about 200 distribution transformers, armored cables copper earth wires, transformer oil, feeder copper bars and several spans of aluminum conductors line insulators worth billion of Naira,” he stated.
Engr Ibrahim lamented that the EndSARS saga and the advent of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria had slowed their activities when he assumed office as MD, but has been able to archive set goals within the period under review.
Commenting on the efforts been made by JED in efficient power distribution, the MD informed that a total of 88,500 prepared metres worth 5.6 billion Naira were distributed to customers from January till date.
According to Engr Ibrahim, customers within its franchise states of Gombe, Bauchi, Plateau and Benue, currently owed JED the sum of 115 billion Naira.
The MD appreciated security agencies for keeping an eagle eye on it facilities. He noted that some suspected vandals are in the custody of security agencies for alleged theft.
Earlier, in a welcome address at the event, JED Chairman, Alhaji Babangida Inuwa had reiterated the commitment of the company in servicing it customers more efficiently.
Alhaji Inuwa thanked its partners for keeping fate with JED, he assured all company customers of efficient distribution of power, but urged them to live up to expectations.
The JED chairman acknowledged the importance of energy (power) in a developing country. He therefore, said JED will not relent in meeting its obligations.
Similarly, JED Chief Commercial Officer, Engr Mansir Nakande, in a presentation also assured customers of proactive power supply.
He revealed that approval of the sum of N47.23 billion, excluding investment has been made for metering of customers for the next five years.
It was gathered that the newly launched corporate strategy vision, mission and core value of JED shall witness constant and accelerated distribution of power within its area of coverage.
